2. The Capture of Goliad Presidio La Bahia at Goliad was a vital fort
It guarded the road between San Antonio and port of Copano
Whoever had power over Copano, Goliad, and San Antonio controlled South Texas
Texans heard Cos had brought supplies and a shipment of silver to fort
Texans reach fort at night and surprise the Mexicans

3. Battle lasted only 30 minutes
No Texans died in battle

4. Establishing a Government
August 1835 Texans called a meeting to discuss the future of Texas
Was called Consultation
Not all could attend at first
58 delegates attended and created the Permanent Council
Permanent Council- 1st state government of Texas

5. Council disbanded when the Consultation started
Council had set up postal system and send soldiers and supplies to Texas

6. Consultations Work Not all delegates agreed on War’s purpose
Some favored freedom from Mexico, others wanted to stay a part of Mexico
Consultation sent Stephen F Austin and 2 others to U.S. to seek help against Santa Anna
Set up a short term government, called a Provisional Government

7. Provisional Government consisted of a governor and legislature
Consultation also put Sam Houston in charge of the army

8. Siege of San Antonio Cos reached San Antonio on Oct 9, 1835
Puts some soldiers in town others in mission (Alamo)
Austin and 300 Texans march to San Antonio
Austin’s army began a siege at San Antonio
Cos’ army quickly used up their supplies

9. The Grass fight
Texans spot Mexican troops with a large number of mules heading toward San Antonio
Believe they have silver to pay troops
Texans attack Mexicans and after a fierce battle, Mexicans flee
Texans end up finding grass which Mexicans were bringing for their horses

10. Capture of San Antonio
Texans decide to capture San Antonio after hearing about how low Mexican spirits were
After 4 days of fighting , Cos surrenders the town
Texans let Cos’ troops go after they pledge not to return to Texas
Army had beaten a force 3 times its size
