If Clauses – Type 1 If I see him today, I will convey your message. If you go to the city centre, will you please collect my coat from the drycleaner’s? Set up your alarm clock. If you oversleep, you will be late for the first lesson. Meaning We use the first conditional when we talk about real and possible situations. Type 1 refers to the FUTURE. Type 1  If clause (condition)      Main clause (result)  If  + Simple Present Can will can, may (permission) may , might, could (possibility) must, have to (obligation) should, had better, ought to (advise) Imperative Examples: If I have enough money (if clause), I will buy a car.
