Today we are going to estimate lengths and measure using a ruler.
Main Activity Today we are going to estimate lengths and measure using a ruler.
11
You can work individually or in pairs.
Join some strips of newspaper to make one strip. Estimate the length of strip to be a metre long. You cannot use a ruler to help.
12
Compare the length of your strip of paper against a metre ruler.
Decide which label to put the strip with. more than a metre about a metre less than a metre.
13
Could you measure a book in metres?
A smaller unit would be more useful for small measurements.
14
This unit is called a centimetre.
There are one hundred centimetres in a metre.
15
Group Work Work in the same pairs as yesterday. Each pair should:
measure out 10cm divisions on your ‘metre man’ measure lengths in the classroom to the nearest 10cm measure and record your work.
