Teaching Point! Today I want to teach you that every text reveals an author’s perspective on that event, topic, or issue. Figuring out an author’s perspective can help you figure out how exactly his or her ideas fit into the issue. One of the best ways to figure out an author’s perspective is to lay that perspective next to others and study connections and contradictions across sources. Perspective is different from point of view! Perspective is how an author’s point of view has shaped what the text says and how it is written.
