Collect material of concern and site details (always with land owner’s permission)
Photographs are extremely helpful What type of samples? samples should contain junction of dead / live tissue trees/shoots/branches should be in the process of dying, but not completely dead package in plastic bags (ideally a zip lock plastic bag which can be sealed)

Label with site name, tree species, date, material type (i. e
Label with site name, tree species, date, material type (i.e. phloem or xylem). It is helpful to have the name of the person taking the sample and contact details (tel number is fine). Do not let samples get hot (in warm weather keep in a cooler bag or similar) and post on the same day (and preferably not on a Friday so sample does not linger in the post).
