2 What is Registered Apprenticeship?
An “earn while you learn” model to prepare workers for careers. Sponsor: an individual employer or an association of employers who are part of the program. Apprentice: enters into a formal agreement with their employer, who is a sponsor with the Delaware Department of Labor. Receives a combination of both classroom and on-the-job training. Tuition-Free School Paid Job Typically, an apprentice works during the day and attends school at night.

4 In Delaware, there are: 1,400 Registered Apprentices (RA)
360 employer sponsors with at least one RA Over 20 Occupations with a program Top 5 Occupations: Electrician Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters HVAC Sheet Metal Workers Construction Laborers

7 Childcare Development Specialist
Federally Apprenticeable Occupation: 2 year program 144 hours of related instruction each year 2000 hours of on the job training each year Employers like you in other states are using RA to meet their workforce needs around childcare.

8 Previous Delaware Program
RTI: 120 Hours of Community Based Training TECE 1 TECE 2 3 Courses at Delaware Technical Community College Barrier: Wage increases RAs could not complete the college credits Approximately 100 RAs enrolled, less than 10 completed, half of those continued to get their bachelor’s degree. By using Apprenticeship and T.E.A.C.H., individuals utilized a low-cost option for their education.

9 Delaware Early Childhood Teacher Program
Train your workforce in child development as they become qualified Lead Teachers through Delaware First 2-year program combines related instruction (classroom and lab), On-the-Job-Training (OJT).

10 Proposed RTI 2 year program
Semester 1: TECE 1 Semester 2: TECE 2 Year 2: Childcare-related Remedial Work: To give this workforce the tools to become confident and college ready. Contemporary Issues in Childcare Curriculum (seeking college credit for this). This would cover various models, theories, and issues in early childhood education programs and discuss the impact of these items on children’s learning and development.

12 Feedback Curriculum Certain areas that would be helpful in training?
Suggested certifications or curriculums for the program? This curriculum could be customizable depending on your cohort. For example, if you wanted to add CDA certification, you could work with your Related Instruction Provider to add that in the program. Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Certification. Could add remedial work in the first year because TECE 1 and 2 are 120 hours and Apprenticeship requires 144 hours. Send Feedback to:
