2 Psalm 5:11 But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

3 Being a Living Sacrifice
Romans 12:1-5 Being a Living Sacrifice Romans 11 is often used as a prooftext for Calvinism. This fails because the Calvinistic interpretation is at odds with other Scriptures. Scriptures are understood in light of other Scriptures; therefore, we understand this chapter from the total of the Bible

4 The Priests of God We are repeatedly called priests of God (Jesus) has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen Revelation 1:6 Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. Ga 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.

5 The Priests of God We are repeatedly called priests of God You also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5 Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. Ga 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.

6 The Priests of God We are repeatedly called priests of God You also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5 Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. Ga 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.

7 Offering the Living Sacrifice
Priestly services have two purposes: For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; Hebrews 5:1 1Pe 3:20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. Nu 14:30 'Except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, you shall by no means enter the land which I swore I would make you dwell in. 1Ki 11:13 "However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.“ Ezr 2:64 ¶ The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty, Lu 13:23 ¶ Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved?" And He said to them,

8 Offering the Living Sacrifice
The High Priest has offered one sin offering for all Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption? Hebrews 9:12

9 Offering the Living Sacrifice
The High Priest has offered one sin offering for all - We are cleansed by His offering - We return to that offering when we sin - 1 John 1:7-9 - If we sin without repentance we despise it - Hebrews 6:4-6 1Jo 1:7,9 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin…. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Heb 6:4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.

10 Offering the Living Sacrifice
The High Priest has offered one sin offering for all Today, our priesthood is to offer gift sacrifices How do we offer living sacrifices correctly?

11 OT Lessons on Sacrifices
1. It needs to be what God desires: - Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:3-4) Ge 4:3 ¶ And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering

12 OT Lessons on Sacrifices
1. It needs to be what God desires: 2. It needs to be how God desires - Nadab and Abihu (Leviticus 10:1-2) Le 10:1 ¶ Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them 2 So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

13 OT Lessons on Sacrifices
1. It needs to be what God desires: 2. It needs to be how God desires 3. It needs to be a sacrifice - David (1 Chronicles 21:24) 1Ch 21:24 Then King David said to Ornan, "No, but I will surely buy it for the full price, for I will not take what is yours for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings with that which costs me nothing.“

14 OT Lessons on Sacrifices
1. It needs to be what God desires: 2. It needs to be how God desires 3. It needs to be a sacrifice 4. It needs to be offered with willing hearts - Priests of Judah (Malachi 1:7-13) - 2 Corinthians 9:7 2Co 9:7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

15 Transformed in the Mind
Renewing of the mind - Ephesians 4: Putting on the New Self - 1 Corinthians 2:16 - Being a Christian is a mindset - What would Jesus do in my stead? Eph 4:22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. 1Co 2:16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.

16 Conclusions Romans 12:1-5 calls us to be priests - A lifestyle of sanctification - Sanctification: set apart and holy - A lifestyle of Christian interaction Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.

17 Conclusions Romans 12:1-5 calls us to be priests The Old Testament teaches us about sacrifices - How and what God desires matters most - It needs to be a sacrifice - It needs to with the right attitude Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.
