1 Database in digital format PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003
DATELINE Database in digital format PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003

2 Database Weighting on Person Level
Is consistent set of long-distance passenger travel information Database covers European Union and Switzerland Delivers coded data and derived information Describes long-distance mobility at several levels of detail Is delivered in form of relational database, exported to text files. PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003 PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003

3 Weighting on Person Level Coding & integration
HH state Participants – additional dimension HH journeys + P journeys PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003 PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003

4 Weighting on Person Level Coding & integration
Work carried out by many partners from various European countries Coding tools prepared by the project (Coding book, Collect It, Geocode It) Coding and integration started concurrently with the data collection process Error correction process performed in parallel with coding During post processing calculated variables were derived (weights, expansion factors, NUTS zones, aggregate values) Survey organisations responsible for coding and geocoding (good – place spellings, phone back) Coding tools before field work starts, since many org. allow ASCII, coding book compliant, instant error checking, Four scheduled intervals, two stages, for each survey organisation separately, need more! Feedback on errors provided. Corrections together with data, always complete database, SN is responsible for data until error free At the data centre all partial databases integrated, several variables calculated for following processes (BOKU, TIS), import G,EF, export PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003 PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003

5 Weighting on Person Level Geocoding
Two basic reasons – distance calculation & spatial distribution Project requirement about spatial distribution was NUTS 1 Place name (town, village, ...) coordinates are sufficient GEOnet Names Server, National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) + US Board on Geographic Names ID as reference to the list of places is stored in the database During data integration and post processing, global coordinates and NUTS codes were assigned to each place Survey organisations responsible for coding and geocoding (good – place spellings, phone back) Coding tools before field work starts, since many org. allow ASCII, coding book compliant, instant error checking, Four scheduled intervals, two stages, for each survey organisation separately, need more! Feedback on errors provided. Corrections together with data, always complete database, SN is responsible for data until error free At the data centre all partial databases integrated, several variables calculated for following processes (BOKU, TIS), import G,EF, export PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003 PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003

6 Weighting on Person Level Structure and format
Database is available in integrated form containing information from all countries. It is also available on country basis. The exports were produced from the relational tables of the MS SQL database system. Each relational table is extracted as a separate file. Example: File: Households.txt Content: First line: ”HHID”;”HH_PERSC”;”HH_U5”;”HH_5_14”; etc. Other lines: ” ”;”3”;”1”;”0”; etc. ” ”;”2”;”0”;”1”; etc. etc. HH state Participants – additional dimension HH journeys + P journeys PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003 PMWG Meeting, Luxembourg, 24/25 April 2003

9 Weighting on Person Level Database access
The DATELINE database will be available for download from the ELMIS web site when it is approved from the EC It can also be obtained on CD ROM. Survey organisations responsible for coding and geocoding (good – place spellings, phone back) Coding tools before field work starts, since many org. allow ASCII, coding book compliant, instant error checking, Four scheduled intervals, two stages, for each survey organisation separately, need more!
