Yes – as long as
a) You admit that you are doing it by showing
that it is someone else’s work/ideas
b) You don’t do it too much and remember to include
more of your own thoughts than someone else’s
c) You complete a reference or citation
to show where the work is from

Even though another Year 10 student may not
be a published author, copying what they
have written is plagiarism

source, both of these are plagiarism.

Even if you copy someone’s writing but change
key words to others with similar meaning,
this is still considered plagiarism

Yes! you can even plagiarise your own work.
If you did a project in Science and
another similar project in I&S and
decided to copy a paragraph from your own
work – this is still plagiarism!

What are the Consequences?
The consequences are very severe!
At IB Diploma level you can be disqualified from all subjects for one piece of plagiarism
…and all coursework is checked!

How to avoid it
1. Don’t copy and paste and be original!
2. Always give citations for information you use that is not your own.
3. Show where you found your information by adding a bibliography
