There are four basic sentences in the English language

Identify the following sentences.
Simple, Compound, Complex, and Compound/Complex I was the most joyful person when the President decided to call off school. I was unhappy because I was looking forward to a cloudy day. He was not only very polite, but he was an industrious person. When we decided to go out to eat, we did not know that a thunder storm was nearby, and we left with no rain coats or umbrellas. Also remember --clauses are the building blocks of sentences.

What makes a sentence? You need three things to make a sentence.

The bridge was far away, but the soldiers believed they could reach it by night fall. Coordinating conjunctions, and, but, yet, so, for, or, nor Creator José J. González, Jr. STCC

Write compound sentences.
________________, but she sang the song more beautifully than anyone else. ________________, and he did not feel well that morning. ________________, for I was the only person that knew the right answer. ________________, yet he did not know what to do when the policeman arrived. ________________, or you will be put in jail immediately. The soldiers did not think they would reach the bridge because it was too far away. The subordination conjunctions may be in the beginning of the sentence or in the middle of the sentence. Creator José J. González, Jr. STCC

The soldiers did not think they would reach the bridge because the bridge was far away, and they were being eaten alive by hundreds of mosquitoes. His wife liked banana pecan, but his two daughters liked mango. Since he only had enough money for three ice cream cones, he was left without a cone. Each daughter and his wife offered Ignacio a taste of their ice cream cones, and this made Ignacio happy because he felt their love for him.
