Cells: Part II Levels of Organization

2 Many celled organisms ARE NOT just mixed up collections of different types of cells. They are ORGANIZED in a certain way. The levels of organization are as follows:

4 CELLS ORGANIZED so they can work together. Sickle cell Normal cell

5 TISSUES TISSUES are GROUPS of similar cells that all do the same sort of work. Examples: blood, muscle, bone Muscle tissue is made of MUSCLE cells, bone tissue is made of BONE cells, etc.

6 Tissue within the stomach
Smooth MUSCLE tissue Loose CONNECTIVE tissue Nervous tissue COLUMNAR epithelium tissue (Connective tissue is the BLOOD in the walls of the stomach.)

7 ORGANS ORGANS are different types of tissues working together.
Examples: Stomach, LIVER, heart, skin, etc. Stomach is made of MUSCLE tissue, NERVE tissue, & BLOOD tissue

9 Stomach + mouth + intestines + liver = DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
ORGAN SYSTEMS ORGAN SYSTEMS are a group of organs WORKING together to do a certain JOB. Examples: respiratory, circulatory, DIGESTIVE, reproductive, nervous Systems ARE DEPENDENT on other systems in your body Stomach + mouth + intestines + liver = DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

11 ORGANISMS Entire LIVING things that can carry out all basic life PROCESSES. Usually made up of organ SYSTEMS May be made up of only one CELL such as bacteria or protist. Examples - bacteria, amoeba, mushroom, sunflower, HUMAN (YOU!!)
