Operation Sand Castle Overview
OPERATION SAND CASTLE (OSC) leverages reserve component engineer units to construct CG prioritized horizontal, vertical and specialized projects that improve the NTC rotational operating environment. OSC is designed as a training exercise in which reserve component engineer units deploy to NTC with their MTOE authorized equipment to conduct mission essential tasks collective training in an austere, contested environment, increasing operational readiness. Within a rotation at the National Training Center, units will face world-class opposing forces while operating in one of the most challenging environments available. Units have the ability to work real world mission, and receive external evaluation on their ability to accomplish mission essential tasks.

Task Organization CBT 315 CBT CONST (-) CONST Total authorized strength of units listed is 636 personnel, ARNG/USAR organizations goal for ECT attendance is at 80% of authorized strength. If goal is achieved 508 personnel would be in addition to existing rotational number. Units of different composition can be sourced based on the project priorities of the National Training Center

Battalion Headquarters and Support
Battalion Headquarters and Support: Provides mission command to support and direct units on ground as a portion of a host nation effort. Reporting units will be spread across the battlespace requiring the headquarters to deal with the tyranny of time and space while securing themselves against hybrid threats.
6
Engineer Construction Company
Engineer Construction Company: Units can expect to construct roadways, berm obstacles, anti-tank ditches, or runways in support of the National Training Center mission. The construction company will be in dispersed locations and prone to at least probing efforts of the enemy.
7
Vertical Construction Company
Vertical Construction Company: Increased requirements for our forces to fight in constricted dense urban populations the vertical assets can expect to construct shock absorbent concrete structures or temporary wooden structures throughout the training environment. Being in urban areas means units can expect to have to work with the local populace and react to such threats.
8
Route Clearance Company
Route Clearance Company: This represents the only live route and area clearance mission outside of a theater of operation. Using visual surface clearance and ground penetrating radar former designated impact areas need to be cleared to expand training area. Units will be supported by explosive ordnance disposal and encounter small mortars to artillery impact UXO.
