Looking at Your Character
Name: _______________________ Date: ___/___/2013 ELA 7-____ Unit One: Character Looking at Your Character You will meet a variety of characters in Unit One, from the fourteen-year-old Roger, who tries to steal a purse; to a 7th grader named Victor who desires to speak French and steal Teresa’s heart; to various characters within your extended text. You will also study how and why authors develop their characters. The word character has another meaning. We often speak of someone as a person of character. This is a person who leads his or her life in an admirable or good way. It is someone who is ethical and moral and has traits that most people agree are good and noble. Many of the characters in Unit 1 exhibit qualities—such as bravery, fairness, perseverance, and honesty. How would you rate your own character? Are you as kind and forgiving as Mrs. Jones in “Thank You, Ma’am”? Can you persevere in difficult circumstances the way that Gary Paulsen did in Dirk the Protector? Place in the Class Notes section of your ELA binder
