Uniform and P.E PE kit Navy shorts, navy round neck t-shirt (without buttons) and pumps or trainers should be kept in a named drawstring bag. In colder weather we encourage children to bring a track suit or similar into school. Please ensure that ALL clothing and footwear is clearly labelled with your child’s name. For swimming, children will need costume or trunks and towel. Swimming gala will follow sessions this term. School uniform Grey Trousers or skirts. White Shirt or Blouse. Navy Blue School Sweatshirt or Cardigan. Black shoes, summer dresses can be worn as well. Children must always wear shoes even in the summer as sandals can cause a health and safety risk.

Homework Will always go out on Monday and will always be due Friday Expected in blue or black pen or pencil ONLY All sections must be complete – we do expect that there are sometimes circumstances that prevent this. We ask that parents please check homework and sign Spellings, tables, sentences, English, Maths or topic will be given each week. Children must record reading at home in diaries. Homework club is available each week Please ask as early as possible if there are any issues.

English this year Guided reading for each group at least 1x per week Independent reading on rotation Spellings taught on a Monday with the pattern then reinforced through the week in homework. Focus on grammar in readiness for the SATs assessments Expectation on more extended pieces of writing. Where possible, writing opportunities will be linked with the class text, visit or topic.

Maths this year Daily maths lessons Mastery approach- significant investment in the curriculum across the country Small steps approach with the aim of deepening understanding. Times tables are crucial. Lists sent home this term are about learning the skill of multiplying by specific values not about learning a set of tables. Focus on number and place value through the year. Focus on reasoning about maths and problem solving.

Topic and science This term’s topic is Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest Chester Zoo visit Exploring conservation, pollution, deforestation, culture, climate etc! Focus on animals, plants and the indigenous populations. Science focuses on Earth and Space Topic project to be sent in forthcoming weeks where children can select one of these areas for their independent homework study.

SATs Statutory assessments in Year 6 Week beginning 13th May 1 or 2 papers to be taken each day from Monday to Friday SATs club will run from January Parent workshops in Late January Open door policy- please pop in at any time if you or your child has worries or concerns.
