What is a “Tall Tale?” A type of genre that is also known as a “folktale” Usually a tall tale has a “larger than life” hero (meaning the hero does many things that could not actually be possible in real life) Usually the text also includes “hyperbole” (which is just an exaggeration, like: “he was as tall as a 10-story building!”)

You will choose a tall tale character randomly The character you choose is the one you must stick with for your presentation

Once you have chosen your character, Ms. Heather has a reading provided for you. Some readings are tall tales and others are just information. Many tall tale characters were actually alive at some point, but stories were created to make them seem “larger than life” and more incredible than they actually were

We will do some work in class, and some work outside of class. The purpose is to learn and have fun, so don’t take it to seriously but still put forth effort! This is a graded assignment so please treat it like a test.

You must also do some research at home about your subject. The work we do in class will match with your homework, so don’t forget to do the homework or you will be very, VERY unprepared for class! Let’s start!
