2 Hymen, deus mātrimōniī , ad nūptiās Orpheī cum Eurydicē vocātur sed nec verba laeta nec ōmen fēlīx attulit. Fax quam tenuit nūllōs ignēs dedit.

3 Eurydicē, dum per herbās cum turbā comitum ambulat, dente serpentis in pedem receptō, occidit.

4 Orpheus ausus est ad Stygem dēscendere et Eurydicēn inter umbrās invenīre. Prōserpinam et Plūtōnem tenentem rēgnum umbrārum adiit.

5 `Nōn hūc dēscendī,’ ait, `quod Tartarum vidēre dēsīderābam nec canem Cerberum, mōnstrum ingēns, vincere. Causa viae est coniūnx quam serpēns necāvit.’

6 `Ōrō, retexite fāta Eurydicēs
`Ōrō, retexite fāta Eurydicēs. Omnia dēbēmus vōbīs; omnēs ad ūnam fīnem properāmus. Haec est domus ultima; longissima rēgna tenētis. Cum Eurydicē iūstōs annōs ēgerit, vōbīs erit.’

7 Orpheum dīcentem tālia animae exsanguēs audiēbant et lacrimābant
