A Tangible Faith #3 James 1:5-11 04/22/2018

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (James 1:5-6)

7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. (James 1:7-8)

9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.
10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. (James 1:9-10)

11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business. (James 1:11)

THE PROBLEM: INDECISION
8 A double-minded person is unstable in all their ways. (James 1:8)

Three ways indecision makes you unstable:
Unstable Emotions Unstable Relationships Unstable Spiritual Life 7 That person will not think that they will receive anything from the Lord. (James 1:7)

The Problem Is Indecision
5 If any of you lack wisdom you should ask God who give generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to them. (James 1:5)

Three practical steps: Admit Your Need Ask – Pray to God!
5 If any of you lacks wisdom… (1:5) Ask – Pray to God! 5 If any of you lack wisdom you should ask God. (1:5)

6 It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him comes knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6)

THE PROMISE: GOD WILL GIVE IT!
5 If any one of you lacks wisdom you should ask God, who give generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (1:5)

Look how God says He’ll give wisdom:
Continually 5 Ask God who gives… Generously Without finding fault

James says about decision-making:
God does not want to make the decision for you. God’s wisdom is found in God’s word. 105 God’s word is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path. (Psalms 119:105)
