Longevity of mucosal and systemic antibody responses induced by pulmonary vaccination.
Longevity of mucosal and systemic antibody responses induced by pulmonary vaccination. Sheep received three vaccinations of 15 μg of influenza antigen and 75 Isco units of Iscomatrix adjuvant, delivered into the deep lung. Negative-control unvaccinated sheep (n = 12) received PBS alone. Serum and lung washings, collected 1 (n = 12), 3 (n = 12), 6 (n = 12), and 12 (n = 6) months after the third vaccination, were analyzed for the presence of anti-influenza virus IgG and IgA antibodies by ELISA. Immunization via the pulmonary route induced a significant antibody response for up to 6 months postvaccination compared with that of unvaccinated controls (*, P < 0.035; ANOVA). Ana Vujanic et al.
