Learning Focuses This Week Spelling Words Homework ( Mon. , Tues. & Thurs.) Theme: Seasons – seasonal weather, months, activities, and holidays Writing: Continue informational (or ”teaching”) books Reading Skills: Review main idea and details from stories. Review vowel diphthongs: /ou/ and /ow/. Introduce /ew/ and /oo/ Reading Strategy: Recognize word endings in text and find the root word to help with decoding. Starting February 1st until Valentine’s Day, put a new heart on your child’s bedroom door each day with a reason why you love them! Watch their self-esteem blossom! Feb. 20th – Spring Portraits Mar. 1st – Read Across America Day Mar. 7th – First Grade Field Trip – more information to come Teacher Tips for Success This week in our Crossing Corral lessons, we learned about using kind words. Speaking kindness and hearing kindness can change a child’s outlook and improve his/her day. The positive effects of kind words are endless. Hurtful words, of course, have the opposite effects. We reminded the kids of the famous words: If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all! You are kind to others You’re a hard worker You are always honest
