1 HW: Probability Skills Review
Monday, 4/17/17 Write the IC and HW in your planner. IC: SKUNK & Anything But 8 HW: Probability Skills Review Materials Ch. 9/10 Math folder Planner Pencil Marker & Eraser 1 1

2 Bellwork Would you rather play a game where you roll 2 dice and win if you get a total of 2 or win if you get a total of 7? Why? Would you rather play a game where you win if you get evens or win if you get odds on a spinner numbered 1-11? Why?

3 Bellwork Write the decimal and percent for each of the following:
Round percents to the whole number.

4 Think! Fact: My teacher might collect homework today. Question: Should I do it? Fact: An earthquake might destroy my house Question: Should I buy insurance? Fact: I might make more money if I was in business for myself Question: Should I quit my job?

5 Why? Everyday we make choices like the ones on BW.
All our choices are based on the chance that certain things might actually happen. We estimate the probability of different events before we make our choice. Sometimes we estimate probability by using past experiences, asking other people’s opinions, looking at data, etc.

6 SKUNK Game Today we’ll play a game in which you will experience both choice and chance. Object: To accumulate the most points by the end of the 5th round. We play as a whole class, but you are your own team.

7 SKUNK Game Rules: Everyone stands.
Two dice are rolled and the sum of the dice is recorded as your point total. If one of the dice is a “1”, the round is over and everyone who is standing gets their points wiped out for that round (you end up with 0 pts for that round.) * People sitting get to keep their points. If both dice are ones, “snake eyes”, all points in all columns are wiped out. You will have zero total points * People sitting get to keep their points. If there aren’t any ones, players can choose to keep standing and try to collect more points or they can sit down and keep their points safe, but they won’t earn any more points than they already have. Idea: You collect points from “good” rolls and choose to sit down before a “bad” roll comes and wipes out your points.

9 SKUNK Game Reflection How many outcomes are there?
How many outcomes involve rolling a “1”? In theory, what is the probability of rolling a “1”? 4) In theory, what is the probability of rolling snake eyes?

10 5) How many total times did we roll the dice?
6) In our game, how many outcomes did we have that involved rolling a “1”? 7) What was our experimental probability of rolling a “1” on either or both dice? 8) Did our experiment match what was supposed to happen in theory?

13 Anything But 8 Reflection
How many outcomes are there? How many outcomes involve rolling a sum of 8? In theory, what is the probability of rolling a sum of 8?

14 5) How many total times did you and your partner roll the dice?
6) In your game, how many outcomes did you and your partner have that involved rolling a sum of 8? 7) What was your experimental probability of rolling a sum of 8 using two dice? 8) Did your experiment (game) match what was supposed to happen in theory?
