Moon moves ~ 4 cm/year away from the earth
Moon moves ~ 4 cm/year away from the earth. 1 billion years ago it was 40,000 km closer to the earth Earth’s slows it rotation by 1.5 ms/century. So in 100,000 years we lose 1.5 seconds 100 million years 1500 seconds (1/2 hours), 1 billion years ago 15,000 seconds (4-5 hours)

Dissipation is the time
Rate of change of energy Thus units m2/s3 And proportional to U3/H (Turbulent shear production) Interesting to note that tides are proportional to distance to moon cubed– and thus tidal dissipation is proportional to distance to the moon to the ninth power! As the moon moves away– and content move– tidal dissipation may be very sensitive. Could drive climate variabitliy.
