2
What is the drug? Alcohol is defined as a psychoactive drug, and a volatile, flammable liquid, and a key component in alcoholic drinks. It is referred to as an intoxication
3
What are examples of the drug?(street names, technical names)
There are perhaps more types of alcoholic drinks around the world, due to the vast commercial value and mainstay in many societies. Some examples include beer, whiskey, tequila, vodka, gin, schnaps, sake, and many more. Slang, or street names, for alcoholic drinks could include “booze”, “hooch”, “sauce”, “brew”, “liquid bread”, etc...
4
Effects of the drug? Alcohol is absorbed in the stomach and distributes to the rest of the body. Long term use causes stomach cancer and ulcers. Alcohol is the leading causes of cardiovascular diseases. It raises your blood pressure, increase heart rate and increase the size of your heart. Chronic drinking damages the liver that lead to liver diseases like Hepatitis, Fibrosis, Cirrhosis. Pancreas produces toxins due to alcohol that causes pancreatitis. Weakens the immune system and slows down the ability to fight off infections. Can lead to different kinds of cancers. Causes birth defects if consumed by pregnant women.
5
LEGAL AND SOCIAL ISSUES SURROUNDING THE DRUG
Must be of legal age, 21 or older in order to purchase. Alcohol reduces social inhibitions and it leads to a high risk of sexual activities and lowers the practice of safe sex; it increases the risk for STD’s and unplanned pregnancies. Alcohol often leads to violence, robbery, assault, rape, domestic violence, and homicide. It reduces your cognitive function, and impairs your physical coordination which causes a high risk for injuries for examples drinking and driving which leads to a DUI, fines, court- ordered treatments, jail time, job loss, etc. Alcohol is a factor for suicide and depression.
6
Is the drug addictive? Alcohol can be a highly addictive substance, especially when consumed in large amounts within a short period of time. When a person drinks alcohol, the drug causes their brain to release dopamine and endorphins. This is why drunkenness often results in slurred speech, inability to walk normally and slowed breathing. After a period of continued alcohol abuse, it takes larger and larger quantities of alcohol to achieve the same effect. This process is called tolerance. Developing tolerance is the first step toward becoming addicted to alcohol or developing alcoholism.
7
Route of Administration(oral injection-What kind?
The route of alcohol administration used in the experimental study of the role of alcohol in carcinogenesis should mimic the human condition:the p.o. route should, therefore, have major attention. This route appears in concord with epidemiological evidence of alcohol involvement in cancers of the upper digestive tract. The relative advantages of schedule-induced polydipsia, an alcohol solution as the sole fluid source, and an alcohol-containing fluid diet are assessed, as well as the intake of alcohol via the respired air. These routes allow a wide range of daily alcohol doses to be ingested, the largest resulting in continuous intoxication and the development of physical dependence.
8
Two examples of the drug in that category?
