The Beginnings Associate (Adjunct) Faculty Development Institute
Benefits: Prof. Development, Title, Pay, and Retention The Institute was originally implemented at the Muncie campus through a grant in 2015. The AFDI was modeled after the Faculty Development Certification program at Valencia College. Three additional campuses (Evansville, Richmond, and Terre Haute) developed an AFDI program modeled after the Muncie program. BENEFITS: Professional Development Earn the designation of Associate Adjunct Faculty member with a name badge Earn stipend each semester Become part of a broader collaborative community made up of faculty members from your campus, college-wide and nation-wide Acquire tools and training to help you develop as a great teacher Take advantage of support and resources Retention of Adjunct Faculty Greater Retention of Students

Current State Faculty Development and Student Success
Faculty self-perception Novice adjunct faculty Increased student retention and success. Participating faculty have expressed an appreciation of the ongoing professional development opportunities and believe they are more confident as teachers not just content experts. Provides novice adjunct faculty many opportunities to strengthen their teaching and classroom management skills quickly. Research studies have shown that course completion rates of participating instructors rose 3.6% from spring to semester to fall and that the participating group had an overall 2.5% higher completion rate than the rest of the college (Adjunct Faculty program at Fullerton College)

Future State of Adjunct Faculty Certification Institute
What is the Adjunct Faculty Certification Institute? Benefits: Prof. Development, Rank, and Pay AFCI is intended to be a state-wide vehicle for faculty professional development and will be housed in IvyLead. AFCI is one part of a three part proposal that includes an adjunct rank system and a simplified and incentivized pay structure. Adjunct Faculty will have to complete portions of AFCI to move along the rank structure (with other criteria).
