10 Fat Sausages Click once to make the number line and sausages appear in turn. Ask the students to count along and identify how many there are. Start chanting the rhyme: Ten fat sausages, sizzling in a pan One went pop and another went bang Click to make the sausages pop and bang. The corresponding numbers will dim to grey. Ask the students how many sausages are left in the pan. Ask them to identify how they knew (e.g. looked at the numerals, counted back, counted how many they could see, etc.). Suggest checking their answers and click to make the sausages sizzle and spin to aid counting. Ask them to show that many on their fingers, or find that number on a number line, or to draw it in the air or on a white board. Continue chanting the rhyme, going through the above stages for each verse. Ask the students to identify how many sausages have disappeared, using the dimmed numerals as cues. They could also be encouraged to keep a tally of how many go “pop” and how many go “bang” on a white board. When all the sausages have disappeared, click to make zero appear.
