1. b-Hydroxysalicylhydrazones: Chiral, Non-Racemic Tridentate Catalysts for Asymmetric Synthesis

Our research has been primarily focused on using the Ephedra alkaloids as chiral scaffolds for the creation of chiral ligands for a organozinc reactions and the Tsuji-Trost asymmetric allylic alkylation reaction. The b-hydroxysalicylhydrazones experienced limited success in the asymmetric alkylation of aldehydes and imines, but this work inspired to development of highly effective ligands for the Tsuji-Trost reactions. The best ligand developed is capable of producing enantioselectivities as high as 99% ee.
