6 MODAL VERBS MUST vs SHOULD
MUST : Obligation You MUST go to school everyday, it’s the law You MUST wear a uniform in the school SHOULD/SHOULDN’T : Advice You SHOULD watch films in English ( it’s not a law but something you can do if you want to) You SHOULDN’T eat so much junk food Modal verbs are always followed by the INFINITIVE

EXAMPLES: He can  speak Russian. She should  go now. My wife may join us for the dinner. 2. You use "not" to make modal verbs negative, even in Simple Present and Simple Past. The meaning is similar to must I must study hard to pass my exams I have to study hard to pass my exams MUST is related to notices and rules You MUSTN’T smoke in a plane HAVE TO is used when another person or external circumstances impose the obligation Rachel says we HAVE TO READ books in English DON’T HAVE TO/ DOESN’T HAVE TO It is used to talk about something that isn’t necessary or obligatory You don’t have to wear the same shoes She doesn’t have to bring me a present
