Expression of LIF protein in epithelial cell of human fallopian tube determined by immunohistochemistry. The protein was mainly localized in epithelial cell and faint in stromal cell. Immunostaining of LIF in implantation site (A, original magnification ×400) was more intense than in corresponding nonimplantation site (B, original magnification ×400) and also stronger in the group with chronic inflammation (C, original magnification ×400) than in the normal group (D, original magnification ×400). The right corner of E (original magnification ×200) is proximate to the implantation site. To clearly show the different expression due to different distance from implantation site, we cannot include the villus and the different expression epithelium in the same illustration. The nearer to the anchoring villus, the stronger staining of LIF in epithelium was observed (E).

Expression of LIF protein assessed by Western blotting in human fallopian tubes. β-Actin was used as a control to assess the amount of protein in each sample. The anti-LIF antibody detected a predominant band at 45 kDa. Chronic salpingitis tissues (1, 4), normal fallopian tubes (2, 3), fallopian tubal tissues in implantation site (5, 7), fallopian tubal tissues in nonimplantation site (6, 8).
