3 Obsidian: Volcanic black rock used by ancient people to make tools.

4 Oasis: A place in the desert that has a dependable source of water.

8 Ziggurat: A tall stepped tower built by the ancient Sumerians as a temple to a god.

12 FERTILE CRESCENT It lies in South West Asia.
It extends from Israel (occupied Palestine) through Lebanon and Syria, all the way to the Persian Gulf. Some of the villages are among the oldest in the world.

It was an important trading center.

They traded extra grain for obsidian. Obsidian was used as a tool and a mirror.
