2. The Exercise
To better develop our idea developing skills, we decided to go with the exercise once again.
The task was the same, we will be given a random word from a random Wikipedia article, a random object and a random location. Combining these three elements, we will have to formulate a film opening
The words that we got were ‘Young Actor’
The object was ‘A Green Glove’
And the location was ‘An abandoned Warehouse’
To make the items completely random, we didn’t choose them, our teacher did and made chits out of them. We just picked 3 of the chits and our work began

3. The Genre
The main genre of the film would be Crime-Film and Mystery.

4. The Characters
The characters that will be introduced in the opening are as follows;
The Young Actor, he would be really bruised and beaten up. One would think that his attackers did a real number on him. He started his career 3 years ago and is yet to be acknowledged. His new film is coming out but it has gained no publicity and the release is only a week away. If this film is a flop, he will likely be out of the industry. Plus, it seems as if he has gained a few ‘friends’ who gave him quite a beating.
The detective, the real deal. But he will be underrated and business will be slow for him. The actor will think he is good for nothing and therefore, approach him. Though it won’t be revealed in the opening of the film. In reality he will be the type of detective whose gut is very responsive and rarely wrong. Gives attention to every detail and misses out nothing. Will have the actor under suspicion as well, which will really get under the actor’s skin.
The leader of the attackers, a real tough guy who seems it to have it for the young actor. His is absolute control of the gang and will continue to torment the actor as the film progresses.

5. Character Visualization
The young actor would be bruised and have a few cuts. He would be dressed nicely and have an arrogant personality. he will be full of himself
The detective, dressed in the typical detective attire, a brown overcoat, a hat and a pen and pad. He will be very thoughtful and think over every word before saying it
The leader of the attackers, we don’t know much about him except that he wears a green glove on one hand. That’s all the actor remembers. And his punches really hurt.

6. Location
Our location is an abandoned warehouse so we were considering one similar to the ones shown below:

7. Plot Part 1
After we have shown the logos and acknowledged the companies, the film will begin with the voice of a knock on a blank knock. The blank screen will then develop to a frame containing the close up of a door and another knock. Then we will hear someone say come in and the scene will move to the office of a private detective.
We will now see the man who was knocking (the actor), he will be in a (outfit) and his face will be bruised and cut. The detective will instantly recognize him and claim to have seen the trailer of his upcoming film. He will say that watching films is what he does in a free time. The actor will act arrogantly, sit down and start with his story. The camera will slowly trace from the detective’s face to the back of the actor’s head, while they are both talking. When the camera will reach the back of the actor’s head, he will say angrily, ‘They beat me up, I want action’. And the camera will emerge from the other side of the actors head but this time they will be in the warehouse, the night before the current day.

8. The Door
This is the type of Door I referred to in the previous slide. The opening will start from its view after the knock.

9. Plot Part 2
We will see from the back of the actor’s head, everything will be slightly blurry since this is from the actor’s point of view. There will be a bunch of guys punching and kicking him. Only one fist will be prominent, the one wearing the green Glove (yes, this is where the glove comes in). They will continue to punch and kick him, with his head violently shaking from side to side and all of his body trembling. we will show a slow motion uppercut from the Green Glove and all the while, the actor will be tied to a chair.
He will then fall over and we will be shown the legs of the men and the chair and the camera will zoom in beyond the chair to small broken jagged glass piece, the piece will be shown for only a second or two but in that second, the reflection will only include the legs of the chair, not of the men.
The camera will then move to the men kicking him and then zoom into his tied wrists behind the chair and we will have a cut to the present day wrists of the actor, he will be showing them to the detective to show the marks left by the ropes.
The detective will then say, ‘I see, I will look into it’, write something on the paper and stand up. The camera will zoom into the page and we will see Green Glove written on the page. The Screen will then fade to black and the title will appear.

10. Inspiration
There are two main inspirations that we will like to acknowledge that led to the formulation of this plot
One of them is a Bollywood Film, ‘Wazir (2016)’.
The other one is ‘The Usual Suspects (1995)’.

11. Sound
No soundtrack
When we move to the narration of the night, the sound of the punches and kicks will be amplified
When the chair falls, a tension building tune will be played and its volume will increase and reach the maximum point when the reflection in the glass is shown

12. Credits
This opening will be a title opening and only the main titles will be shown, like the main cast, the director, the producer, the D.O.P etc.
The first credit will be shown on the door, the next few credits will be shown will the actor enters the room and till he sits down. The credits will stop then.
After that, the remaining credits will be shown while the actor is being beaten up. Some of them will be written on fists and boots and some will be behind the actor’s head, revealed alternatively when his head his punched to alternate sides.
The last credit, the main cast’s name will be kept till the end and shown when we see Green Glove written on the pad.
