sense organs and glands of the skin Function: protection, excretion, and aids in regulating body temperature

Skeletal System Major organs: bones, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons
Function: body support, protection of organs, provides levers for muscles to act on

Muscular System Major organs: all muscles attached to the skeleton,
ex., biceps, triceps, Function: to contract or shorten to produce movement, generates heat

Nervous System Major organs: brain, spinal cord, nerves, and
sense organs Function: to detect changes and respond

Endocrine System Major organs: Function: produces chemical
pituitary, adrenal and thyroid glands; ovaries and testes, pancreas Function: produces chemical messengers to help maintain homeostasis

Circulatory System Major organs: heart, blood vessels,
blood, lymph vessels, lymph nodes, spleen Function: transport system, protection against pathogens

Respiratory System Major organs: larynx, trachea, lungs Function:
supplies blood with oxygen and eliminates carbon dioxide

Digestive System Major organs: esophagus, stomach, liver

rids the body of nitrogen containing wastes, maintains water balanace

female: ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus Function: provides germ cells to perpetuate the species
