1 Oh! The Diorama Poems are frequently characterized by their ability to effect the reader’s mood. Much like an emotional song, or painting, a poem is designed to evoke a feeling from the reader. This Feeling is called the “mood” of the poem. This Exercise is designed to encourage you to think about the feeling the author is trying to convey. Follow the directions below to complete the activity. Read the poem “I Was Sleeping Where the Black Oaks Move”. Annotate the eight terms in the poem that are impactful to you. (That cause an emotional reaction.) write the words selected from the poem on the lower portion of the diorama. Once you have selected eight terms that were impactful to you, decide a general mood that all the words share. To begin deciding the general mood of the words you should: Decide what the words say about the genre- are they humorous? Sad? Whimsical? Scary? Once the general genre or mood has been decided you should design a scene in place of the picture of the old man. The scene should represent the mood of the annotated words from the poem. 4. Print your diorama without the picture of the old man. 5. Cut, fold, and glue your diorama so it is able to stand up on its own for display.
