THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
5
SIX STEPS OF THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
1.) Stating a problem 2.) Collecting OBSERVATIONS 3.) Searching for SCIENTIFIC LAWS 4.) Forming HYPOTHESES 5.) Forming THEORIES 6.) Modifying THEORIES 6
6
1.) Stating a problem exactly what are you trying to find out
can usually be stated in the form of a simple question
7
2.) Collecting Observations
read up on the topic ask others about it Internet plan experiments
8
3.) Looking for LAWS examine the information collected to find relationships in the data relationships often take the form of mathematical equations
9
4.) Forming HYPOTHESES a hypothesis is a possible answer or an EDUCATED GUESS about the solution to the problem being investigated
10
5.) Forming THEORIES a generalized explanation for the behavior of matter based on many experiments and the work of many scientists
11
6.) Modifying THEORIES theories are not facts and often need to be modified and adjusted as new observations are made
