Course Selection Overview
February 1 – Students receive Course Selection materials. Teacher recommendations for core courses available in HAC with the second quarter report card. Teachers review recommendations and discuss department offerings and course requirements. February 7 Course Selection Evening 7 P.M. February 12 – 25 Counselors visit English classes to support online course selection (Student ability to enter selections closes). March 6 (week of)-Recommendations and selection verifications mailed to parents.

Course Selection is about choice – choose courses that reflect interests, abilities, and aspirations. Course Selection is about the future – choices may shape the way future employers, trade schools, and colleges view your preparation. Course Selection is individualized – each student carries a unique “fingerprint” for course selection. Value your individuality. Course Selection is your responsibility. Choices made will be expressed in your schedule for

How do I know which courses are best for me?
Collaborate with your teachers to discuss recommendations for course level: AP, Accelerated, Honors, College Prep. Discuss plans with your parents. Devise a plan that supports your interests and goals. Meet with your counselor to talk about your concerns. Carefully read the descriptions of the courses under consideration and understand your responsibilities.

Each course has a separate description. Each description describes the expectations for the course. Understand “prerequisites”. Understand recommendations.

The Course Description Dissected
Accelerated ALGEBRA II Course #0809 This advanced course includes the study of linear equations and inequalities, systems of linear open sentences (algebraic and graphic solutions), linear functions, and relations, product and factors of polynomials, rational expressions, irrational and complex numbers, quadratic equations and functions, variation and polynomials equations, matrices, sequences, series, selected probability and statistics topics, and conic sections. Instruction will be provided using the graph calculator. A TI83 or TI-84 is required for this course. Students can expect to do minutes of homework each night. Tests and quizzes will be given for each unit. A midterm and final exam are integral parts of this course. Recommendation: Students should have a test average of 80% or better in Accelerated Algebra I and Accelerated Geometry.
