1 Andy’s redesigned indoor G scale layout
30’ X 24’ AREA TO WORK WITH PREFERENCE WAS TO HAVE A WALKAROUND LAYOUT DESIGN BASE RAIL HEIGHT WOULD BE 35” ABOVE THE FLOOR MAXIMUM RISE WOULD BE 9” ABOVE BASE HEIGHT

2 Everything is 8’ diameter curves except the curves on either end of the lower yard.
This way, the two crossovers can handle the big locos to bypass the lower station.

3 Bridge section that is at all one rail height,
flat-bottomed design for train clearance over the twin mainline and switching yard Got quotes from EagleWings Ironworks, after seeing their work at the ECLSTS. Probably over-designed for indoors, but they look great .

4 Initial attempt to lay out the track plan and see if it all fits – I used AnyRail
track planning software, which I liked. If you’ve already viewed my first layout presentation, you’ll notice I sheet-rocked the walls before building the new layout.

7 Now everything’s up on bench work – this is the lower passenger station…
I added two spurs for storage along the inner bench edge… above is the mainline straightaway and a passing siding…

8 Here’s the upper mainline as it leaves the station area and approaches the sweeping
curve over what I expect will be a water feature – perhaps a bay…

9 Here you view the twin mainline below passing under the 4’ truss bridge, and
the upper curve passing through that bridge and down to the lower yard.

10 The transition over the yard and into the lower station is plywood now; the original
Through-girder bridge (8’ diameter track) was not wide enough for my Mallet and Heavyweight passengers cars, and had to be widened from 7” to 9” ID.

11 Here’s the original through-girder bridge in temporary position; it was fine for diesels
and freight cars, but not the longer stuff – I have it back now, and will be reinstalling it by the end of June 2012… word to the wise if using 8’ curves – you need 9” clearance!

That’s it, as of June I’ll try to add more photos as I get some scenery done Comments are always welcome at
