2 Brainstorm: what should your resume include?

4 Objective Give a brief explanation of your job objective
Make sure it matches in some way the position you are applying for Example: ‘To obtain a position as a care giver for young children’ would be a good objective if you are trying to get a babysitting job

5 Education List the schools you’ve attended and the years you were there Make sure the years line up on the right hand side of the page Include any awards you have obtained (ex honour roll)

6 Experience Give the job title and company you worked for
Include the years (on right hand side List from most recent to least recent

7 Skills Languages spoken Computer skills
Action words (confident, team spirit, optimistic, good with people, etc)

8 Interests/extracurricular activities
This is additional information to include Includes volunteer experience (include years) Clubs you’ve participated in (include years) CPR certification etc

9 References Available upon request
Can come from past employers or teachers DO NOT USE family members Bottom of resume

10 Cover Letter Your Address Include your phone number
Align on left hand side of letter Include the date

11 Address of company/job your applying to
Salutation: Address the letter to the employer by name if possible. If the information is unavailable, use Dear Sir or Madame

Introduction: Explain why you are writing. Name the position you are applying for and where you heard of the position Body: Tell the employer what you can do. Outline your qualifications and skills that you possess Closing: Tell the reader to contact you if they need any further information. Thank them for their time. Include your signature and printed name

Social Insurance Number The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number that you need to work in Canada or to have access to government programs and benefits. A SIN is issued to one person only and it cannot legally be used by anyone else. You are responsible for protecting your SIN. Store any document containing your SIN and personal information in a safe place—do not keep your SIN with you.
