1 Review For Unit 1- Quiz #3 Interpreting Expressions
Essential Question: What types of questions will be on Quiz #3

2 Level 1 I can identify individual parts of an expression
-3(x – 11) 4y + 27 Variable:_________ Variable:_________ Coefficient:_______ Coefficient:_______ Constant:________ Constant:________ Term:__________ ` Term:__________ Factor:_________ Factor:_________

3 Level 2 I can write algebraic expressions to represent different quantities. Let d represent the number of books Mr. Grooms has, and s represent how many books Mr. Sark has. Write expressions that represent each of the following: ______ The sum of Mr. Grooms & Mr. Sark’s books ______ Triple the total of their books ______ 7 books less than Mr. Sarks books ______ Double of Mr. Grooms books

4 Level 3 I can interpret expressions within a given context.
There are g gallons of water in a swimming pool. Water is filling the pool at the rate of f gallons per minute. Write the meaning of the following expressions. g + 5f :____________________________ g – 10f:____________________________ 3g: _______________________________

5 Level 4 I can interpret complicated expressions by viewing one or more of their parts as a single entity. A grocery store sells a box of fruit for $18. It has $16 worth of fruit plus $2 for the box. The box includes two kinds of fruit: apples and oranges. Bill knows how much the different types of fruits cost per pound and how many pounds are in a box. He said, “If y is the number of pounds of oranges included in the box and x is the number of pounds of apples in the box, then I can write the following equations based on what I know about these boxes: 𝑥+𝑦=5 5𝑥+2𝑦+2=18

6 Use Bill’s equations to answer the following:
How many pounds of fruit are in the box? What is the price per pound of the apples? What does the term 2𝑦 in the second equation represent? What does 5𝑥+2𝑦+2=18 in the second equation represent?
