Intro to Cellular Respiration
2
Cellular Respiration Most of the foods we eat contain usable energy stored in proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Before this energy can be used it must be transferred to ATP

C6H12O6 + 6 O2 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + ATP energy
Cellular Respiration Cellular respiration is the process by which cells release the energy from food to make ATP. Formula: C6H12O6 + 6 O2 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + ATP energy
4
Two Stages of Cell Respiration:
Stage One: Glucose is broken down and converted to pyruvate, producing a small amount of ATP and NADPH. Glycolysis
5
Two Stages of Cell Respiration:
Stage Two: Aerobic (O2) respiration: pyruvate and NADH are used to make a large amount of ATP. Krebs cycle and electron transport chain Anaerobic (no O2) respiration: pyruvate is converted to lactate or ethanol and carbon dioxide. Fermentation
