Grace Fellowship Church
Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Thursday, June 10, 2010 Title Page Below are some simple instructions on how to use this template: 1. You can change the text in the graphical screen above or in the outline area to the left. 2. There is one default background that is indicated by “ ” .This slide acts as a space or a blank screen, use to clear or blank the screen. If you have a large graphic such as a map you could also use this screen. If you insert a new slide you will get this default background. 3. The first five slides have the other backgrounds for the set. To use more than one of these background types in your presentation highlight the one you wish to use and choose copy from the edit menu. Paste this slide where you want it to appear in your presentation, then change the text on this new slide. By copy/pasting the slide in this manor you will keep the background, text formatting and the customized animation from that slide. By using the copy/paste method you find it saves you time and keeps a consistent look through out your presentation. 4.There are a few additional notes written in the slide text wording that may be helpful. Note: We are working on a website that in the future will provide help topics on using sermon outlines in PowerPoint as well as provide sermon templates similar to this one. Check for more information.

Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.—Amen.

Memory Verse John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:11 Having the Joy of Jesus Christ, Part 5

Doctrine of Joy D. Joy and Emotions (continued)

Phil 3:19, “Whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite (emotions), and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.”

Emotion is something empty and waiting to respond
Emotion is something empty and waiting to respond. Emotion contains no doctrine, no thought, no common sense, and no ability to reason.

8. Emotions are the appreciator of the soul
8. Emotions are the appreciator of the soul. By function, the emotions respond to the right lobe strictly as a responder.

9. Emotion is not designed to assume authority over the soul, but is designed to be dominated by the KARDIA (the right lobe of your soul).

10. Emotion has no ability to love
10. Emotion has no ability to love. Thus, emotional revolt produces homosexuals and lesbians.

11. Capacity for life is related to the right lobe which is thought, not the emotions. You can enjoy life only by running your emotions in response to your thoughts.

12. The emotions of worry, anxiety and guilt all come from fear
12. The emotions of worry, anxiety and guilt all come from fear. They are manifestations of fear. Fear is a lack of thinking under pressure.

Fear is the believer’s failure to apply doctrine to the problems of life, suffering, disaster, and failure. Hatred, anger, violence, and murder also come from fear.

Scriptures related to fear as an illustration of sin include: Psa 56:3-4; 2 Tim 1:7; 1 John 4:18

1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.”

13. Joy is far greater than emotion
13. Joy is far greater than emotion. It is sharing the happiness of God, a happiness that does not depend on circumstances.

E. Emotion stimulates happiness. Prov 23:15-16

1. Emotions respond to the +H in your right lobe as you become aware of what is in your right lobe.

This is analogous to the Pastor whose student is advancing in the Plan of God giving him joy. Philemon 1:7, 20

a. Our good emotions respond to the happiness in our soul, just as a right woman responds in joy when her right man expresses joy to her.

2. The Frame of Reference provides information for the Memory Center, which stimulates response in the emotions. Therefore, emotions become a stimulus to happiness.

Emotions are not happiness, they make you aware that you are happy.

3. Your Conscience, which contains your Norms and Standards (N&S) also turns on your emotions.

Your priesthood is stimulated to function when your emotion is turned on by your N&S that are based on the Word of God.

Emotional response to your Conscience causes you to have good emotions of pride knowing you are fulfilling the Plan of God for your life. Rom 15:17; 1 Cor 15:31; 2 Cor 7:4, 14; 11:10; Gal 6:4

Rom 15:17, “Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God.”

2 Cor 7:4, “Great is my confidence in you; great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort; I am overflowing with joy in all our affliction.”

Gal 6:4, “But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. 5For each one will bear his own load.”

4. When you hear someone else speak Divine viewpoint, it stimulates a joyful response to your own viewpoint from Bible doctrine in your N&S.
