Definition of a Cult Film: A cult film is a movie that attracts a devoted group of followers or obsessive fans, despite having failed commercially (sales) on its initial release. The term also describes films that have remained popular over a long period of time amongst a small group of followers.

13. Aspects of Cult Film that are different from Mainstream Film
Themes generally revolve around not “fitting” in to society- being “marginalized”
( on the outside)

Topics are uncommon topics i.e. death, vampires, zombies, deviant sex, psychological disorders

Aesthetics (the way something looks)- some movies have been shot in a different way- i.e. digital handheld cam [Blair Witch], black and white, gritty (dirtier),

Story doesn’t follow usual format, i.e. hero Monomyth, no archetypal characters, or good doesn’t always triumph over evil
Characters portrayed are darker and not shown in good light
