2 Thesis Statement A thesis statement is a strong sentence telling your audience what your research is going to PROVE. You are proving that there is both fact and fiction in The Iliad. Do not say “I think” or “I feel” Example: There are both similarities and differences between the historical account of the Trojan War and Homer’s epic poem The Iliad.

3 History Behind the Trojan War
According to history, who fought? How did the war begin? Where and when did it take place? Remember, you should be paraphrasing your research. Do not write word for word what you read. *WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES: “Who fought? Answer: The two groups fighting in the Trojan War were…”

4 The Iliad by Homer According to Homer’s epic poem, how did the war begin? What were the roles of the gods and goddesses? Use your book “The Iliad and the Odyssey: Stories from Homer’s Epics”

How is Homer’s The Iliad similar to the history behind the Trojan War? How is it different? Please write three paragraphs of 4-5 sentences. The first paragraph will give evidence of how the Iliad is similar to what you’ve learned in History about the Trojan War. The second paragraph will give evidence of how The Iliad and what you’ve learned in History is different.
