Quick Review Independent Clause: a group of words that contains a subject, a predicate, and a complete thought. Dependent Clause: a simple sentence that contains a subordinator (while, if, since, because, after, before, etc) Dependent Clause: an incomplete thought (missing either a subject or a predicate)

Complex Sentence Complex Sentence: a complete sentence that includes an independent clause (a simple sentence) and a dependent clause.

Review of Sentences Thus Far… Simple Sentence: Contains a subject and a predicate (aka an independent clause). Compound Sentence: Contains two or more simple sentences (ICs) joined by a conjunction (FANBOYS) Complex Sentence: Contains an independent clause and a dependent clause.

Compound-Complex Sentence Compound-Complex: Contains two independent clauses joined by one of the FANBOYS and a dependent clause – A combination of a compound sentence and a complex sentence Everything that is present in a compound sentence and a complex sentence MUST be present to be considered a compound-complex sentence.
