How can we use pattern and what we learned last time to make a non-objective piece about an emotion? Design 4 of your own patterns Next assignment Randomness pencil in your patterns today.

Last time We learned about balance, contrast, and composition.
Than we learned how to show emotion using value, line and contrast. Lastly we showed that we could show emotions by making designs for 4 different emotions on our own. If you were not here last time you will want to go onto the classroom website and catch up.

Art is Emotion Is the lightness or darkness of an object in your picture. Is used to show if something is +positive or –Negative. Your picture will be +positive if it is mostly LIGHT. Your picture will be –Negative if it is mostly DARK.

Art is Emotion Is used to show if something is Active! or Passive~.
Active! lines jump and dart around a lot. They tend to have lots of angles like lightning. Passive~ lines swoop and curve and are very relaxed.

Art is Emotion Is extreme differences that are next to each other.
Active! Contrast has LOTS of differences next to each other. Passive~ contrast has FEW differences next to each other.

Pattern A pattern is a repeated decretive design.

Create your own Patterns
In your sketchbook create at least 4 of your own patterns that you might use in this piece. Each pattern should be unique. You do not have to use all of your pattern ideas, but at least 3 need to show in your piece.

Fill the entire page with patterns and textures You should have a total of 8 patterns once done Use at least 3 of your own patterns Only black and white Pencil first than sharpie markers
