Answer the following questions as best as you can (one per group)
Where is the violence occurring? Who is committing the violence? Who is the violence directed toward? Why? When did it begin? How many have been killed? Otherwise abused/affected? Besides killings, what other kinds of violence/discrimination are occurring? WHY does genocide happen? (Hint: Do all of these situations/places have anything in common?) How can we prevent genocide in the future? Do you think these numbers (death tolls) are accurate? Why or why not?

Nigeria The Federal Republic of Nigeria, commonly referred to as Nigeria, is a federal constitutional republic in West Africa, bordering Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north. Its coast in the south lies on the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. It comprises 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, where the capital, Abuja is located. Nigeria is officially a democratic secular country.

Burundi Burundi, officially the Republic of Burundi, is a landlocked country in the African Great Lakes region of East Africa, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. It is considered part of Central Africa. Burundi's capital is Bujumbura. The southwestern border is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika.

Debate Does the United States have a responsibility to intervene in these genocides? Or are we better off “minding our own business?” In your notebook, list as many reasons as you can to support each side of the debate. Then decide which side you agree with. Be prepared to share these reasons and debate this issue.
