Then the French began to explore Texas to set up French settlements there. What do you think Spain’s reaction was? How could it compare to the love triangle of Bella, Jacob and Edward?

France claimed the St. Lawrence River and was exploring the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley, including Missouri and the Mississippi River. (Shade OH, MO Red)

In 1682 this French explorer canoed down the Mississippi River to its mouth at the Gulf of Mexico. He planted the French flag and claimed all of the basin drained by the Mississippi for France. He named this region Fort St. Louis for his king.
