Speak too fast; Waffle; Go off on random tangents because I’m excited about the topic; **This is me. Not you. Don’t panic. I’m not trying to be rude. Honest What do we need to do more of? The Research & Support Bit: The National Autistic Society’s ‘Held Back’ Campaign: Communication Tips & Strategies for students with Autism and Asperger’s: The Communication Trust Resources: Blog perspective: Have some patience. Let them think about what you’ve said. Extra time in exams = extra time to think in class; Watch their faces. Is it confused-piratey or happy-let’s-attack-the-mainland-piratey? Be clear. Really clear; Keep it to the point; Ask a colleague to come and listen to what you say in LiTi or a Learning Walk; Be aware of distractions -displays, the board, sounds, light, blinds, other students. Do have their full attention? Do you leave a written summary of your feedback? Pace doesn’t always mean faster.
