Support colleagues by helping to allow for such things as religious commitments or disabilities or family commitments J. Gurto

Time is used constructively and time limits are strictly adhered to Team remains focused on the agenda Only one person at a time speaks All team members have the opportunity to speak and put forward opinions and ideas Everyone is treated with respect Different viewpoints will be discussed All team members must ACTIVELY LISTEN Once agreement is reached, set goals and allocate individual tasks. Be prepared for the unexpected Be flexible and adapt to changing needs Sometimes negotiation and bargaining may be necessary You may be asked to work overtime or cover for a colleague who is absent or to work additional shifts for which you have not been rostered. J. Gurto

14 Meeting Your Goals Complete individual goals quickly and efficiently in order to meet broader work goals e.g. – making canapés (INDIVIDUAL GOAL) for open night (BROADER GOAL) What you do affects other people’s work – if you complete a task later than planned it could hold up many other people who are depending on you. Find out what the PRIORITIES are and plan your WORK FLOW J. Gurto

15 Making a work flow plan Think about all the tasks that have to be done
List the tasks that have to be completed before another task can start List tasks that can be done at the same time Plan the SEQUENCE (order) of completing each task Work out how long each task will take Make a checklist for routine tasks J. Gurto

16 Can this task be done at the same time as something else?
Let’s Do It In a group of 4 make a work flow plan for a lunch menu of battered fish and chips and a lettuce, tomato, cucumber vinaigrette dressing for 10 people TASK How long will it take? Sequence of tasks Can this task be done at the same time as something else? J. Gurto

17 Helping Each Other It is better to ask for help than to struggle on alone and get things wrong or being too late If you have some spare time, volunteer to help a colleague who needs it. Ensure that you are helping the colleague to complete his task and not hindering the progress Teamwork is noticed by supervisors and goes a long way to helping your career J. Gurto

18 Getting Feedback Ask for feedback about the quality of your work
Ask for suggestions about how you can improve your work Tell others when they have done something well Thank others for helping you J. Gurto
