Find Slope and Rate of Change
Notes 2.2 Find Slope and Rate of Change
2
Slope (m) Slope is always referred to as the letter m.
3
Rules to Follow: If the slope has a 0 in the numerator, the slope is called zero slope. If the slope has a 0 in the denominator, the slope is called undefined.
4

Types of Slope 0 Slope Undefined Slope
12
Parallel Lines The slope of parallel lines is equal. Example: m = 3
13
Perpendicular Lines The slope of perpendicular lines is the negative reciprocal. m = 2 m = -4
14
Tell whether the lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither.
Line 1: through (-2, 2) and (0, -1) Line 2: through (-4, -1) and (2, 3)
15
Tell whether the lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither.
Line 1: through (1, 2) and (4, -3) Line 2: through (-4, 3) and (-1, -2)
16
Tell whether the lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither.
Line 1: through (-2, 8) and (2, -4) Line 2: through (-5, 1) and (-2, 2)
17
Tell whether the lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither.
Line 1: through (-4, -2) and (1, 7) Line 2: through (-1, -4) and (3, 5)
