What skills and knowledge do you think are necessary for being an effective? Write your list on the blank side of the handout (1:1). Compare your lists in small groups. If your lists are different, explore why those items might be included.

5 ACTIVITY #2 (from textbook p. 10)
In small groups discuss the following: What is your image of what a manager/director of a child development program does? What skills and knowledge do you think are necessary for being an effective manager/director? What parts of the job do you think you would enjoy?  What parts do you think you would find difficult?  Does it take a certain type of personality to do well in the manager’s role?

6 HOMEWORK DUE 10/10 Read Chapters 1 & 2
Answer 2 questions from the end of each chapter (use the rubric in syllabus) Complete introductory questionnaire, if you haven’t already.
