Call person by name to initiate conversation Extend your hand to locate person’s hand when offering hand shake

Speaking Use normal voice No need to shout vision problem not hearing
Look at person when speaking If more than one person in conversation use patient name s needed Let patient know you are leaving so they are not talking to themselves

Giving Directions Be concise and specific
Avoid generalities such as: over there; right here Remember point of reference will be reversed Your top is patient bottom Your right is patient left
