DOL Quick, name the eight parts of speech! Write two sentences. Between the two of them, use every single part of speech.

Transitive Verbs (VT) Carries an action across a sentence
Answer: what? whom? EX: I eat spinach. EX: I love my dog. Direct and Indirect Objects. When there are two objects in the sentence, the indirect always comes before the direct object. Indirect Objects can usually be recognized by moving them after the direct object and adding to or for.

Identify DO and IO Note: get rid of prepositional phrases first.
Harry met Sally at the grocery store. He shot the basketball. Give your Aunt Patty a hug! The plumber’s pants give us too much information.

Intransitive Verbs (VI)
Answers when? Where? Why? how? EX: I eat at 6:30 am. EX: I eat nutritiously. EX: I eat at my kitchen table.

Linking Verbs (VL) Form of “be” Verbs that describe the subject
90% = is, were, am, are, be, was EX. My dog Daisy is a German Sheppard-Beagle mix. Subject Complements: another way to restate the subject.
